Master Mono (90 ECTS)

Master's students in Chemistry and Molecular Sciences can choose between three specializations: Medicinal Chemical and Chemical Biology / Advanced Synthesis and Sustainability / Specstroscopy and Materials. The so far offered specializations are only still available to the students that have started their studies before the fall semester 2024.

The appendix to the plan of studies provides information regarding which courses are included in the Chemistry and Molecular Sciences mono program.

In addition to the German version of the study plan that can be found further up under "Legal Basis", we will offer an updated English version for your convenience approximately as of June 2024. However, please note that the German version is the legally binding document.

The timetables show the Chemistry courses offered in each semester.

All master's courses offered in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences are conducted in English.

You may also attend courses, as electives, in Molecular Life Science (MLS) or in the University of Bern's Physics master's program. Possible courses can be found in the CTS.

If you wish to complete master's courses from other degree programs within the University of Bern Faculty of Science or from master's degree courses in Chemistry from other universities, you should contact the Directorate of Studies for Chemistry for further information.

At the PSI (Paul Scherrer Institut) each summer 2-months internships are offered. You cannot earn any ECTS-points anymore with these internships, but a small salary is paid. Those who are interested in such an internship can contact Prof. Margit Schwikowski directly (margit.schwikowski@psi.ch). The number of internship positions is limited.

The "Digital Lecture Plan – Master" lists all available courses from the Master degree program for each specialization, provides links to CTS entries, examination plans and timetables as well as the e-mail addresses of lecturers and the Secretary to the Directorate of Studies. Everything at a glance!

Just below you can find the old "Digital Lecture Plan" for the fall semester 2023 and spring semester 2025.

The master's thesis is usually written in semesters 2 and 3 of the master's degree program. We normally send students the topics available for selection in either October or May prior to the second semester. Information regarding organization of the master's thesis and the process can be found in the "Master's thesis process" document.
